CRITICAL THINKING AND MEDIA LITERACY
The way news is presented in the media in Colombia generates multiple points of view and opens space for debate. These media outlets have the fundamental responsibility of keeping the population informed about what is happening both in the country and around the world.
However, it is clear that not all media outlets
report in the same way. Some adopt a more neutral approach, presenting facts
objectively, without including personal opinions or judgments. In contrast,
other media outlets display a more subjective stance, in which journalists
interpret the facts, add their own analysis, and, in many cases, reveal a clear
editorial line.
Furthermore, it must be taken into account that the
way news is presented is also influenced by various factors, such as the media
outlet's political orientation, the economic interests that support it, and its
relationship with the government or certain sectors of power.
Therefore, it is essential that we, as citizens,
develop critical thinking regarding the media. This means questioning what we
read, verifying sources, identifying potential biases, and not relying on just
one version of the facts. Only then can we form well-founded opinions and
contribute to a more informed and aware society.
